The Sophie Scarf is one of those patterns that’s so satisfying to knit, you’ll immediately want to cast on another. It’s worked back and forth from tip to tip in garter stitch, with neat built-in i-cord edges for a polished, professional finish.
The small version loops once around your neck for that effortless French-girl look, while the large wraps twice for a bit of extra warmth and drama. Either way, it’s a great “just one more row” kind of knit.
About the Yarn
The original pattern calls for luxury cashmere, but you’ve got plenty of beautiful alternatives that feel every bit as soft. We’ve knitted this one several times (yes, we’re obsessed), and we particularly love it in:
Two strands of Sesia Oliver held together – for a light, silky texture and beautiful stitch definition.
Lana Grossa Setasuri – for a soft halo and feather-light drape.
Lana Grossa Cool Wool 5 ply – for a classic, smooth finish that wears well every day.
You’ll want something around a 4 ply / fingering weight yarn, or two strands of a finer yarn to match the gauge (22 sts over 10 cm). It doesn’t take much yarn, which makes it perfect for using a single special skein or those partial balls you can’t bear to waste.
