ChiaoGoo is made by four brothers from Linan, China (known as "The Bamboo Capital of China"). Their grandfather was a bamboo craftsman who travelled around making household goods, and their dad set up a workshop in the early 1980s making bamboo knitting needles.
The real inspiration? Their mum. She was an amazing knitter who made warm clothes for the family during the cold winters, and sold extras to neighbours for a bit of extra money. She tested all the needles and was always asking for special ones to suit what she needed. The name ChiaoGoo actually means "highly skilful and crafty lady" – named after her!
The family grew the business through the 1990s, and in 2005 they set up proper manufacturing in China and distribution in Michigan, USA. Now ChiaoGoo is one of the most respected needle brands in the world.
