A sweet little layer for everyday adventures, the Tinkers Vest and Hat knitting pattern from Touch Yarns is a lovely choice for handmade baby gifts and children's wardrobes. The simple vest is worked from the bottom up with a separate front and back, with a hat included for little ones up to 18 months.
Design and sizing
The vest is described for babies and children up to 10 years, with the following supplied sizes and finished chest measurements. The hat is sized for babies up to 18 months.
- 3 months: Finished chest 46 cm
- 6 months: Finished chest 48 cm
- 12 months: Finished chest 51 cm
- 2 years: Finished chest 54 cm
- 4 years: Finished chest 57 cm
- 8 years: Finished chest 61 cm
- 10 years: Finished chest 72 cm
Yarn
Use a suitable 8 ply / DK yarn that matches the tension specified in the pattern. Check the pattern's yarn requirements and your chosen yarn's metreage to work out the quantity needed; ball weights and lengths vary between yarns.
Example colours
The vest examples are shown in Natural 2006 and Bronze, with the hat in Brandy. Choose similar tones or your own favourite colours in your chosen 8 ply yarn.
