Sunday Socks

Bring a little handmade comfort to your sock drawer with Sunday Socks by Petite Knit. With a classic ribbed leg and instep and a smooth stocking-stitch heel and sole, these cosy socks are a lovely project for everyday warmth or a thoughtful knitted gift.

The Sunday Socks are worked from the top down, from cuff to toe. Double rib (k2, p2) adds texture to the leg and instep, while stocking stitch is used on the heel and sole of the foot.

Sizes

• EU shoe sizes: 35–36 (37–38) 39–40 (41–42) 43–44
• US women's shoe sizes: 5–6 (6½–7½) 8–9 (9½–10½) 11–12

Size & Fit Guide

Sizes 35–40 [US5–9] use the same number of stitches in the cuff. The larger sizes, 41–44 [US9½–12], have more cuff stitches. Choose the sock width to suit your calf and foot, then adjust the foot length as needed.

• For a large foot, for example size 44 [US12], with a narrow calf and narrow foot, you can knit size 39/40 [US8/9] and extend the foot to the length of size 42–43 [US11–12].
• For a small foot, for example size 36 [US6], with a wide calf and wide foot, you can knit size 41–42 [US9½–10½] and shorten the foot to the length for size 35–36 [US5–6].

Yarn Requirements

100 g of 8 ply yarn (50 g = 100 m), or two strands of sock yarn held together. Check that your chosen yarn combination achieves the stated gauge.

Needles

• 4 mm [US6] double-pointed needles.
• Alternatively, a 4 mm [US6] / 80 cm [32 inches] circular needle for the Magic Loop technique.
• Use the needle size required to obtain gauge.

Gauge

20 stitches × 31 rows = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in stocking stitch on 4 mm [US6] needles.
