The November Vest is a beautifully structured garment worked from the top down in brioche stitch, resulting in a warm, textured fabric with plenty of depth and movement. This is a detailed and rewarding project for experienced knitters who enjoy thoughtful construction and slow, satisfying knitting.
The vest begins with a section of double knitting at the back of the neck, which later becomes part of the front edges. Stitches are then picked up along one side to work the back yoke, followed by the right and left shoulders. These three sections are joined at the underarms, and the body is worked back and forth in brioche stitch, with the front edges continuing in double knitting.
Stitches are picked up around the armholes, which are also finished in double knitting. The pockets are worked separately in brioche stitch and sewn on at the end, adding both practicality and visual balance to the finished piece.
The November Vest is designed with approximately 12–18 cm of positive ease, meaning it is intended to sit comfortably loose rather than fitted.
Before starting, measure around your bust or widest upper body point to determine your size.
For example, if you measure 94 cm, you would knit a size M, which has a finished bust circumference of 112 cm, giving 18 cm of positive ease.

This vest is knit using a single strand of a firm, woollen-spun yarn.
The original yarn used was a non-superwash wool, with a structured, slightly rustic feel, and a metreage of approximately 200 metres per 100 g or 90 metres per 50 g, depending on the yarn style. Both yarn types produce a dense, warm fabric that supports brioche stitch beautifully.
