The Ivy Sweater is a beautifully simple knit with a slightly different construction that keeps things interesting without making it complicated.
It’s worked seamlessly from the top down, starting with the yoke. Instead of a standard raglan all the way through, this design builds in stages, first shaping the shoulders, then the sleeves, and finally moving into classic raglan increases. It gives a really nice fit through the upper body without feeling bulky.
Short rows are used to shape the neckline so it sits comfortably, and the sleeves are worked in the round once the body is complete.
Overall, it’s a clean, wearable sweater with just enough detail to make it feel a bit special.
Yarn notes
This pattern is designed for a chunky, lightweight yarn that gives warmth without heaviness.
(like indiecita 14 ply alpaca or chaska air)
You’re looking for:
- a yarn that knits to 16 stitches over 10 cm
- something slightly airy or “blown” if you want that soft, cosy feel
- or a more traditional wool if you’d prefer structure
The yarn choice will really change the finished look:
- airy/blown yarns → softer, lighter, slightly fluffy finish
- traditional wool yarns → more structure and stitch definition
Sizing
The Ivy Sweater is designed with approx. 12 cm of positive ease, giving a relaxed but not oversized fit.
Sizes available:
XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL)
To choose your size:
- measure your bust at the widest point
- add around 12 cm for the intended fit
- choose the size closest to that number
Example:
If you measure 90 cm, a size S will give you that relaxed fit.

⭐ Difficulty
Intermediate (★★★☆☆)
You’ll want to be comfortable with:
- top down construction
- short rows
- working different increase sections through the yoke
A quick tip before you start
Because the construction changes through the yoke, it’s worth reading that section through before you begin so you understand how it all fits together.
And as always, take the time to knit and block your swatch first, especially if you’re trying a new yarn.
If you’d like help choosing the right yarn for this (it’s a great one to customise depending on how warm or lightweight you want it), just ask or pop into The Wool Shop in Rangiora.
