Create a cosy wardrobe favourite with Esther Sweater by Petite Knit. An all-over texture pattern, relaxed fit and ribbed neckline make this a lovely everyday layer. Knit it with one strand of 8 ply yarn held together with one strand of lace-weight mohair for a softly textured finish.

Construction

The sweater is worked from the top down in a texture pattern. The back yoke is knitted back and forth with increases. Stitches are picked up and knitted along the top of the back yoke for the shoulders, which are then joined to form the front yoke.

The front and back yokes are joined at the underarms, and the body is worked straight down in the round. The sleeves are knitted in the round on a circular needle from stitches picked up along the armhole openings. A ribbed edge finishes the neckline.

Size & Fit Guide

Designed with approximately 25 cm [9¾ inches] of positive ease in the smaller sizes, gradually reducing in the larger sizes. Positive ease is the amount by which the finished sweater circumference exceeds your body's bust measurement.

Measure your bust, or the widest part of your upper body, before choosing a size. For example, a bust measurement of 90 cm [35½ inches] corresponds to size S. With a finished bust circumference of 114 cm [45 inches], this gives 24 cm [9½ inches] of positive ease.

Yarn Requirements

One strand of 8 ply yarn held together with one strand of lace-weight mohair throughout, two strands in total. Choose a combination that achieves the stated gauge.

The supplied pattern quantities provide two guides for the main yarn, depending on its meterage:

• 8 ply yarn at approximately 125 m per 50 g: 400 (400) 450 (450) 500 (500) 550 (550) 600 (600) g.
• 8 ply yarn at approximately 91 m per 50 g: 550 (600) 650 (650) 700 (700) 750 (800) 800–850 (850) g.
• Lace-weight mohair at approximately 212–225 m per 25 g: 125 (125) 150 (150) 150 (150) 175 (175) 175–200 (200) g.

Check the metres per ball of both yarns when substituting to ensure you have enough for your size.

Needles

• Circular needles: 4 mm [US6] / 60 and 80 or 100 cm [24 and 32 or 40 inches].
• Circular needles: 3.5 mm [US4] / 40, 60 and 80 or 100 cm [16, 24 and 32 or 40 inches].
• Double-pointed needles: 3.5 mm [US4] and 4 mm [US6].

Gauge & Swatching

18 stitches × 30 rows = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in texture pattern on 4 mm [US6] needles, after washing and blocking.

Begin by knitting a swatch with both yarn strands held together to determine the needle size needed. Both stitch and row gauge must be correct to achieve the finished measurements, which are also listed on the front page of the pattern.
