The Briar Tee is a beautifully wearable, top-down tee with a little bit of interest where it counts. The twisted ‘briar’ stitch panel runs down the centre front, adding lovely texture without making the whole project feel overly complicated.
It is worked flat, making it a great choice if you prefer knitting on straight needles or are not quite ready to tackle a garment in the round. The front and back are worked separately, before the sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes. The tee is then seamed under the arms and down the sides.
Because it is worked from the top down, you can easily adjust the body and sleeve length as you knit. The simple shoulder-saddle construction creates a comfortable fit and a beautifully finished shape.
The pattern includes instructions for two gauges, giving you more freedom to choose a worsted-weight yarn that works for you. We have knitted our sample in Sundune Fibres Dunes in the deliciously bright Raspberry colourway.

You will need to be comfortable with knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches and seaming.
Gauge
The pattern includes instructions for both:
- 16 stitches per 10 cm
- 18 stitches per 10 cm
This gives you more flexibility when choosing your yarn while still maintaining the intended fit and proportions.

Choose your size based on your actual bust measurement. The finished measurements include the ease designed into the pattern.

Approximate Yarn Requirements
A range is provided because the pattern includes two gauge options. The 16-stitch gauge is expected to use closer to the lower amount, while the 18-stitch gauge may require closer to the higher amount.

If you are between amounts, we recommend buying the extra ball. It gives you room to adjust the length and is far less stressful than playing yarn chicken with half a sleeve still to go.
