The Friday Slipover V-neck is a soft, textured, wear-with-anything layer worked from the top down in beautifully stretchy broken rib. You begin with the back of the yoke, move on to the shoulders, work the front, and then finish the body in one piece. Once the main fabric is complete, neat ribbed edges are added around the V-neck and armholes, with decorative decreases worked at the centre front for a polished finish.
It’s an enjoyable knit for confident beginners and intermediate makers — especially if you love watching a fabric transform through blocking.
Important Gauge Note
Broken rib grows with washing and wear.
Before washing, you’ll see a gauge of 24–25 stitches per 10 cm.
After washing/blocking, this relaxes to the correct gauge of:
22 stitches × 34 rows = 10 × 10 cm on 4 mm needles.
For this pattern, correct gauge is essential for getting the right shoulder width and overall fit, so be sure to wash and dry your swatch before measuring.

Yarn Type Needed
This pattern uses 4-ply / fingering-weight yarn held together with laceweight mohair to create a soft, light, gently fluffy broken-rib fabric.
Choose:
-
One strand of 4-ply / fingering wool, and
-
One strand of laceweight mohair or mohair-blend
held together throughout.
As long as the combined yarns meet the final washed gauge of 22 sts = 10 cm, your slipover will fit as intended. If you’d like help choosing colours or fibres, we’re happy to guide you.
