A handmade blanket is a beautiful gift for a new baby or a practical knee rug for the couch, often becoming a treasured keepsake along the way. This Touch Yarns knitting pattern includes three popular blanket styles using Touch Merino DK / 8 ply: a traditional patterned blanket, a cable nursery blanket and a plain garter stitch blanket.
Style 1: Patterned baby blanket
A traditional design inspired by the classic baby jacket so many little ones wore.
- Finished size: Approximately 56 x 80 cm
- Yarn: 300 g Touch Merino 8 ply
- Needles: A pair of 4 mm needles (UK 8 / US 6), or a circular needle if you find it easier to hold all the stitches
Style 2: Nursery blanket with cables
A lovely cable design for a special handmade nursery blanket.
- Finished size: Approximately 67 x 85 cm
- Yarn: 350 g Touch Merino 8 ply / DK
- Needles: 4 mm needles (UK 8 / US 6), or a circular needle if you find it easier to hold all the stitches
- Extra: Cable needle
Style 3: Plain garter stitch blanket
The example is worked in three colours. Choose one colour for a simple finish, or use leftover yarn to create a multicoloured blanket.
- Yarn: 300 g Touch Merino 8 ply / DK in total
- Three-colour option: 100 g each of Colour 1, Colour 2 and Colour 3
