Amelie Tee Junior

Classic stripes and a comfortable fit make the Amélie Tee Junior a lovely everyday knit for children. Choose a favourite colour combination for a handmade tee to pair with shorts, jeans or a skirt.

The Amélie Tee Junior is worked from the top down in striped stockinette stitch. The first section of the yoke is knitted flat, back and forth, to shape the neckline. The work is then joined in the round, with raglan increases shaping the rest of the yoke on a circular needle. Stitches are picked up along the neckline to work a stockinette stitch edge.

4 ply yarn in your chosen stripe colours. Select your yarn to achieve the stated gauge.

Sizes & fit

Designed with approximately 9 cm [3½ inches] of positive ease. Choose the size using the child's chest measurement rather than age alone. Lengths can be adjusted if their measurements differ from the age guide, or if they are shorter or taller than average.

For example, a child measuring 62 cm around the chest would suit size 6–7 years. The finished chest circumference is 71 cm, giving 9 cm of positive ease. Finished measurements depend on achieving the correct gauge.

Gauge

28 stitches × 38 rows = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in stockinette stitch on 3 mm [US2½] needles.

Needles

• 3 mm [US2½] circular needles: 60 and 80 cm [24 and 32 inches].
• 2.5 mm [US1½] circular needles: 40 and 80 cm [16 and 32 inches].
• 3 mm [US2½] and 2.5 mm [US1½] double-pointed needles.
