The Storm Sweater Man is a richly textured men’s sweater worked from the top down. You begin with the back yoke, shaped using short rows to create the natural slope of the shoulders. Stitches are then picked up for each shoulder, which are joined to form the front yoke. After this, the front and back yoke are connected at the underarms and the body is worked seamlessly in the round.
The sleeves are also worked in the round, and the neckline is finished with a ribbed edge that is folded double for a clean, professional look. The texture pattern is made up of four distinct stitch segments, giving the sweater depth and interest while still feeling classic.

Yarn Type Needed
This pattern uses a DK / light-worsted wool with good structure and definition — essential for showing off the four-section texture pattern.
Choose a yarn that:
-
sits in the DK to light-worsted category
-
has good stitch clarity
-
meets the gauge of 20 sts × 32 rows = 10 cm on 4 mm needles
-
is comfortable and durable for men’s garments

Meterage Required
Based on typical DK/light-worsted metreage (~90–110 m per 50 g), here is the approximate total required:
800 (850) 850–900 (900) 900 (900–950) 950 (1000) 1050 g
≈ 1450–1760 (1540–1870) 1540–1980 (1980) 1980 (1980–2090) 2090 (2200) 2310 metres
If your yarn has a different metreage, we can help recalculate quantities.
