This is a very wearable, wrap-around shape; you can knot it at the neck in the smallest size or wrap and drape in the larger ones.

Yarn Type Needed

The Sophie Shawl is designed for a soft, warm yarn with good drape, such as:

• DK to light worsted wool, or

• Alpaca or cashmere blends in a similar thickness.

You’re looking for something cosy and slightly luxurious that still shows off the garter stitch nicely.

To get the right fabric, choose a yarn that works comfortably at:
17 stitches × 30 rows = 10 cm in garter stitch on 5 mm needles.

Because the pattern offers different yarn options with different thicknesses, the metreage ranges slightly. As a guide:

• Size S: approx. 300–340 metres

• Size M: approx. 450–560 metres

• Size L: approx. 600–670 metres

If your chosen yarn has a different metreage per ball, we can help you calculate how many you’ll need.

• 5 mm circular needle, 60 cm
  (You knit flat, but a circular needle is used for comfort.)

You’ll also need a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
