Beginners Jacket - Petite Knit (Baby)

A cosy little garter-stitch jacket designed with new knitters in mind — simple construction, soothing rows, and a sweet, wearable finish every time. The jacket is worked flat from the top down, so there’s very little shaping to worry about, and you can easily check sizing as you go.

You’ll knit the yoke first, then the body, and finally the sleeves. The sleeves are also worked flat (no double-pointed needles needed) and then sewn up along the inside at the end. It’s a gentle, confidence-building project for anyone wanting to try their first baby or toddler garment.

These measurements are taken from the finished garment. For babies and young children, a little extra ease is usually helpful for layering and comfort.

Yarn Type Needed

This pattern is written for a DK / 8-ply wool with a smooth, even finish — perfect for showing off tidy garter stitch and creating a warm, easy-care everyday jacket.

To get the right fit, make sure your yarn meets the gauge of:
23 stitches × 46 rows = 10 cm in garter stitch on 4 mm needles.
