A charming three-piece set for babies from newborn through to 12 months, this Crucci pattern covers a ribbed V-neck vest, a matching hat, and a pair of bootees — all worked in 4ply wool. Classic in construction and beautifully practical, it's the kind of handknit that gets passed down.
The vest is worked flat in separate pieces — back, front, neckband, button band, and buttonhole band - then seamed. The hat and bootees follow the same flat-knit-and-seam construction, making this a satisfying project with neat, tidy finishes throughout.
Skill Level: Intermediate - a confident knitter comfortable with increases and shaping will find this pattern straightforward and rewarding.

Tension
28 sts and 36 rows over a 10 cm square in stocking stitch using 3.25 mm needles, or the size needed to achieve the correct tension.
Materials
Yarn: 4ply wool - 1 to 2 × 50g/175m balls for the vest (quantity varies by size; smaller sizes require 1 ball, larger sizes up to 2 balls).
Needles:
- 1 pair each of 3.00 mm and 3.25 mm needles (vest and hat)
- 1 pair of 2.75 mm (3.00 mm, 3.25 mm) needles for the bootees, or size to give correct tension
