The Celeste Sweater is a stunning colourwork knit with a classic circular yoke that feels as good to make as it looks to wear. Worked from the top down, you begin with the neckline, then flow into the stranded yoke motif using five colours. Once the colourwork is complete, short rows gently lift the back neckline for a beautifully balanced fit.

The body and sleeves are then knitted in smooth stockinette, finishing with clean rib edges. The pattern includes both pre-coloured charts and blank charts so you can design your own colour combinations β€” ideal if you love playing with palettes.

Yarn Type Needed

The Celeste Sweater uses:

  • Worsted / 10-ply yarn for the main colour

  • Four additional colours in the same yarn weight for the yoke motif

This gives you a warm, structured colourwork fabric with clear stitch definition.

To achieve the correct fit and drape, choose:

  • Worsted / 10-ply yarn

  • A palette of five colours

  • Yarn that meets both gauges:

    • 20 sts Γ— 30 rows = 10 cm in stockinette on 4 mm

    • 20 sts Γ— 20–22 rows = 10 cm in colourwork on 4.5 mm

If you need help planning colours or finding a yarn that meets both gauges (colourwork often needs a slightly larger needle), we’re happy to guide you.

Meterage Required

Approximate yarn amounts:

Main colour:
450 (450) 500 (550) 600 (650) 700 (700–750) 750 g
β‰ˆ 820–1360 metres depending on size

Contrast colours:
50 g of each of the four additional colours
(Enough for the full yoke pattern.)

Use this to plan your sweater
