A beginner-friendly unisex beanie from Kiniki Knits — the Tarmac is a 2×2 ribbed hat with a raised crown, emphasised by a block of ribbing that runs from top to bottom and gives the finished beanie a clean, structured look. Only four stitches are required throughout: knit, purl, knit-2-together, and purl-2-together — making it an ideal first hat project or a reliable go-to pattern for knitters of any level who want a quick, satisfying result.
The pattern is provided in eight sizes from 1 year old through to X-Large adult, so it's a pattern you'll return to again and again. It's named after the hours the designer spent waiting on the tarmac in a grounded plane, experimenting with the stitch pattern — proof that a good knitting project can make almost any delay bearable.
