Bay Panel Shawl

The Bay Panel Shawl is constructed from alternating panels of linen stitch, brioche stitch, and garter stitch, framed by a moss stitch border. The combination of textures gives the finished shawl a rich, layered character that rewards close inspection, while the overall silhouette is relaxed and wearable. At 150 cm × 40 cm, it sits comfortably between a shawl and a scarf — wear it draped as a shawl, wrapped as a cosy scarf, or reversed to bring the alternate dominant colour to the front. The name carries two layers of meaning. "Panel" is a nod to tukutuku panels — the traditional Māori art form used to decorate the interiors of meeting houses — whose geometric, interlaced patterns were one of the inspirations behind the design. "The Bay" refers to Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, where the shawl was developed. Both references feel right at home in a piece that's as considered in its making as it is in its wearing.
