Yarn with a conscience — Schoppel is a German yarn maker that takes sustainability seriously, from the sheep in Patagonia all the way to the finished skein in your hands.

Based in Wallhausen, Germany, Schoppel produces all their yarns with full traceability and short supply chains, guaranteeing 100% sustainable and socially responsible production across every step. Their wool comes from mulesing-free sheep roaming freely across the vast open landscapes of Patagonia — areas too wild for conventional farming, where animals live in natural freedom. And they were one of the first yarn brands to introduce biodegradable polyamide in their sock yarns, so even the nylon breaks down naturally at end of life.

    • Mulesing-free Patagonian wool — sheep raised in natural freedom, no factory farming
    • 100% European production — spun and dyed in Germany with full traceability
    • GOTS certified options — independently verified sustainable production
    • Biodegradable polyamide — Amni Soul Eco® technology, decomposes in around five years
    • Famous for Zauberball — stunning self-striping colourways beloved by sock knitters worldwide
    • Stocked and shipped from Rangiora, NZ

We stock the iconic Zauberball range — self-striping 4 ply in wool/nylon, 100% merino, and the Crazy two-strand tweed version. Each 100g ball contains around 420 metres, making one ball perfect for a complete pair of socks. The colourways are genuinely magical.
