Maude Tee

A beautifully considered tee with a neat collar, button plackets and a relaxed fit, the Maude Tee is a lovely project for knitters who enjoy thoughtful details. Wear it on its own or as an easy layer in your handmade wardrobe.

Worked seamlessly from the top down, the design begins with the collar, followed by the raglan yoke, body and sleeves. The collar is knitted in the round to give a smooth stockinette finish on both sides, while the double-knitted button plackets have the same tidy finish. Short rows shape the neckline, and raglan increases shape the yoke.

Yarn

One strand of fingering-weight yarn held together with one strand of lace-weight yarn throughout. Choose your yarn combination to achieve the stated gauge, and knit a swatch before beginning.

Designed with approximately 10 cm [4 inches] of positive ease. Measure around your bust, or the widest part of your upper body, and choose a size with a finished circumference approximately 10 cm larger than your measurement.

• To fit bust: 80–85 (85–90) 90–95 (95–100) 100–110 (110–120) 120–130 (130–140) 140–150 cm [31½–33½ (33½–35½) 35½–37½ (37½–39½) 39½–43¼ (43¼–47¼) 47¼–51¼ (51¼–55) 55–59 inches].
• Finished bust circumference: 93 (99) 105 (110) 118 (128) 139 (149) 160 cm [36½ (39) 41¼ (43¼) 46½ (50½) 54¾ (58¾) 63 inches].
• Finished length: 53 (55) 56 (59) 62 (63) 64 (66) 68 cm [20¾ (21¾) 22 (23¼) 24½ (24¾) 25¼ (26) 26¾ inches], measured at the centre back without the collar.

For example, a 90 cm bust measurement would suit size S, with a finished bust circumference of 99 cm and 9 cm of positive ease. Finished measurements depend on achieving the correct gauge.

Gauge

21 stitches × 28 rows = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in stockinette stitch on 4 mm [US6] needles, with one strand of each yarn held together, after washing and blocking. Adjust your needle size as needed to achieve gauge.

Needles

• 4 mm [US6] circular needles: 40 cm, plus two 80 and/or 100 cm needles [16 inches, plus two 32 and/or 40 inch needles].
• 3 mm [US2½] circular needle: 80 or 100 cm [32 or 40 inches].
• 3 mm [US2½] double-pointed needles for the sleeves, unless using the Magic Loop technique.
