Lucy Wrap

A fitted wrap blouse with slanted front edges and double-knitted ties, the Lucy Wrap brings thoughtful shaping to a classic wardrobe piece. Pair it with your favourite skirt or trousers for a handmade outfit that feels a little special.

Worked from the top down in stockinette stitch, the design begins with a back yoke knitted back and forth and shaped with short rows. Stitches are picked up for the shoulders, then the yoke and body are worked back and forth with increases to create the slanted front edges. The sleeves are knitted in the round in stockinette stitch.

To finish, double-knitted ties are worked and knitted together with stitches picked up along the slanted front edges, giving the wrap its distinctive finishing detail.

Yarn

Two strands of lace-weight yarn held together. Choose your yarn to achieve the stated gauge, and wash your swatch before measuring. The pattern notes that the recommended yarn grows with washing and wear, making a washed swatch especially important for the fit.

Sizes & fit

Designed with approximately 7 cm [2¾ inches] of negative ease, meaning the finished blouse is intended to be approximately 7 cm smaller in circumference than your bust measurement. Measure around your bust, or the widest part of your upper body, before choosing your size.

• To fit bust: 75–80 (80–85) 85–90 (90–95) 95–100 (100–110) 110–120 (120–130) 130–140 (140–150) cm [29½–31½ (31½–33½) 33½–35½ (35½–37½) 37½–39½ (39½–43¼) 43¼–47¼ (47¼–51¼) 51¼–55 (55–59) inches].
• Finished half bust circumference: 36.5 (38.5) 41 (43.5) 46 (48.5) 54 (58.5) 63.5 (69) cm [14¼ (15¼) 16¼ (17¼) 18 (19) 21¼ (23) 25 (27¼) inches].
• Finished length: 48 (50) 51 (52) 52 (53) 55 (56) 58 (59) cm [19 (19¾) 20 (20½) 20½ (20¾) 21¾ (22) 22¾ (23¼) inches], measured at the centre back.

For example, an 89 cm bust measurement would suit size S. Its half bust measurement of 41 cm gives a full circumference of 82 cm and 7 cm of negative ease. Finished measurements depend on maintaining the correct gauge throughout.

Gauge

23 stitches × 33 rows = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in stockinette stitch on 3.5 mm [US4] needles.

Knit and wash a swatch before measuring, and adjust your needle size as needed to achieve the correct gauge.

Needles

• 3.5 mm [US4] circular needles: 60, 80 and/or 100 cm [24, 32 and/or 40 inches].
• 2.5 mm [US1½] circular needles: 60, 80 and/or 100 cm [24, 32 and/or 40 inches].
• 3.5 mm [US4] double-pointed needles, unless using the Magic Loop technique.
