With its broken-rib texture and neat ribbed edges, the Friday Tee is a lovely everyday knit for your handmade wardrobe. Its gently relaxed fit makes it an easy piece to pair with your favourite jeans or skirt.

The Friday Tee is worked from the top down in broken rib, with raglan increases shaping the yoke. The neck edge is knitted in rib, then knitted together to create a double-knit neckband. Short rows shape the neckline, while simple rib edges finish the body and sleeves.

Yarn

4 ply yarn. Choose your yarn to achieve the stated gauge after washing and blocking.

Sizes & fit

XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL.

Designed with approximately 6–9 cm [2¼–3½ inches] of positive ease, meaning the finished tee is intended to be 6–9 cm larger in circumference than your bust measurement. Measure around your bust, or the widest part of your upper body, before choosing your size.

  • To fit bust: 80–85 (85–90) 90–95 (95–100) 100–110 (110–120) 120–130 (130–140) 140–150 cm [31½–33½ (33½–35½) 35½–37½ (37½–39½) 39½–43¼ (43¼–47¼) 47¼–51¼ (51¼–55) 55–59 inches].
  • Finished bust circumference: 90 (96) 100 (106) 116 (126) 136 (147) 156 cm [35½ (37¾) 39¼ (41¾) 45¾ (49½) 53½ (57¾) 61½ inches].
  • Finished length: 48 (49) 50 (52) 55 (58) 59 (61) 63 cm [19 (19¼) 19¾ (20½) 21¾ (22¾) 23¾ (24) 24¾ inches].

For example, a 90 cm bust measurement would suit size S, with a finished bust circumference of 96 cm, giving 6 cm of positive ease.

Gauge

28 stitches × 44 rows = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in broken rib on 3 mm [US2½] needles, after washing and blocking.

Before washing, the stitch gauge will be approximately 35 stitches per 10 cm [4 inches]. Broken rib relaxes and grows when washed, so wash your swatch before measuring and choosing your needle size. Use the washed and blocked gauge to guide your project.

Needles

  • 3 mm [US2½] circular needles: 40, 60, 80 and 100 cm [16, 24, 32 and 40 inches].
  • 2.5 mm [US1½] circular needle: 40 cm [16 inches].
  • 3 mm [US2½] double-pointed needles, unless using the Magic Loop technique.

Techniques used

Broken rib, ribbing, raglan increases, short-row neckline shaping and knitting the neck edge together to form a double-knit neckband.
