Muud Knitting Bags: Beautiful Project Bags Designed for Makers
I own one handbag.
One.
I own a ridiculous number of knitting project bags.
Part of the reason is that I usually have several knitting projects on the go. Some bags contain particular projects and travel everywhere with me. Others are sitting at home, quietly holding a half-finished idea I will absolutely return to one day.
Probably.
But I’ve also collected so many project bags because I’ve never quite found one that does everything I need.
When I first started knitting again, I thought almost any bag would do. A tote bag, an old handbag, a clear zipped pouch or anything with a useful pocket could become a knitting bag.
And honestly, there is still a place for that simplicity. You don’t need a beautiful leather project bag before you’re allowed to cast on.
But the more I knitted, the more needles, cables, crochet hooks, wool needles, stitch markers and other tiny essentials I collected. Simply throwing everything into a bag stopped working for me.
I didn’t only need somewhere to put my yarn.
I needed a bag designed around how knitters and crocheters actually make things.
That is what drew me to Muud.
Who is Muud?
Muud is a Danish lifestyle brand founded in 2016. Its designs are rooted in a Scandinavian approach that combines simple, timeless style with practical details.
The company was created to fill a gap for makers who wanted high-quality storage that was both functional and beautiful. Its range includes knitting bags, crochet project bags, needle cases and smaller organisers designed to keep creative tools protected and easy to find.
These do not feel like ordinary bags with the word “knitting” added to the product description.
They have been thought through from a maker’s perspective.
Most Project Bags Only Solve One Problem
Most knitting project bags provide somewhere to put the yarn.
That is useful, obviously. The yarn does need somewhere to live.
But what happens to everything else?
Where do you put the crochet hook you use to rescue a dropped stitch?
Where are your spare circular needle cables?
Can you find a wool needle without tipping the entire bag onto the table?
Where have you put the little stitch holder you definitely remember packing?
This is where the Muud knitting bags and accessories feel different.
They often include dedicated spaces for knitting needles, interchangeable tips, circular cables, crochet hooks, wool needles, stitch markers and small tools. Instead of every little item drifting to the bottom of the bag, it can have a proper place.
That sounds like a small detail until you are sitting in a café with a dropped stitch and cannot find the crochet hook you know is in there somewhere.
The First Thing I Noticed Was the Leather
When our first Muud order arrived at The Wool Shop, the first thing I noticed was the smell of the leather.
You know that rich leather smell that immediately tells you this is something properly made? That.
Then I noticed the zips. They are sturdy and substantial, rather than the sort of zip you approach gently while hoping it survives another week.
Everything feels considered.
The pockets are where you need them. The storage makes sense. The bags hold their shape and the finishing is beautiful.
You can tell these pieces have not been rushed through the design process. They feel like something you would be proud to own and use for years.
Knitting Bags That Still Look Like Beautiful Bags
One of the things I particularly like about Muud is that the bags fit into your life beyond knit group.
You could take one to work, a business conference, a café or onto a plane without it looking out of place. It does not necessarily announce to the entire room that you are carrying your knitting.
There is nothing wrong with announcing that, of course. I’m very happy for everyone to know I knit.
But sometimes you want one bag that can carry your normal essentials and your project without looking like you have brought a small craft cupboard with you.
Many of the Muud bags look like beautiful handbags, crossbody bags or backpacks from the outside. It is only when you open them that you realise how much thought has gone into the maker using them.
There are pockets, compartments and attachment points everywhere, but the bags do not feel bulky or overcomplicated.
Muud has thought about the knitter without forgetting about the person carrying the bag.
Different Bags for Different Types of Makers
There is no single perfect knitting project bag because we do not all knit in the same way.
Some people want a small bag for a pair of socks or a hat. Others need enough room for an entire jumper.
Some want a traditional project-bag shape. Some prefer a crossbody bag. Others, including me, love something that sits more like a backpack.
Muud has also combined classic options with some more playful designs. You can choose something simple and timeless, or pick a piece that shows more of your personality.
The mix of leather and canvas options also gives people different styles and price points to choose from.
When we selected our initial Muud range, we wanted a broad mix of sizes and uses. We also chose some smaller accessories under the $100 mark because they make lovely gifts for knitters and crocheters.
Here are a few of my favourites.
Muud Betina Needle Case
The Betina needle case is one of the pieces I would choose for someone with a growing collection of interchangeable circular needles.
And by “growing collection”, I mean the point where you know you own the needle size you need but have no idea where it currently lives.
The Betina has 11 larger pockets for circular-needle cables and 14 smaller pockets for interchangeable needle tips. You can organise your needles by size and keep the cables stored separately, rather than allowing them to become a strange tangled nest in the bottom of a drawer.
I love the quiet ritual of opening a case and seeing everything in its place.
It encourages you to slow down at the end of a project and put things away properly. That might sound slightly aspirational coming from me, but there is genuine pleasure in knowing exactly where your tools are when you are ready to begin again.
The Betina is available in leather, and we also have a canvas option for someone who prefers that look or price point.
Muud Gro Crossbody
The Gro Crossbody is a clever little piece of storage.
From the outside, it looks like a compact crossbody bag. When you open it, it unfolds into a structured needle case with dedicated sections for your tools and accessories.
It is small, but there is room to organise knitting needles, crochet hooks, circular cables, snips and smaller sewing-up tools. The adjustable strap means you can carry the whole case with you rather than placing it inside another bag.
I think it would be brilliant for travel, classes or craft weekends. You could pack a selection of the tools you use most and know they are all together when you arrive.

Muud Gwen Sling Bag
I think the Gwen Sling Bag may be my personal favourite.
I like backpacks, but I often end up carrying them with one strap anyway. The Gwen has a single adjustable strap, so it sits comfortably across the body without requiring the full two-strap backpack commitment.
It has a roomy main compartment, an internal pocket and a D-ring where you can secure keys or attach smaller accessories. There is also an external zipped pocket for the things you need to reach quickly. The smooth polydrill lining helps prevent yarn and delicate fibres from catching inside the bag.
As someone who has travelled a lot for work, I can immediately imagine using this as my carry-on bag.

I could fit a small knitting project, the tools I need, my normal travel essentials and possibly a few emergency snacks. It would work just as well for someone commuting by train or bus who wants to knit during the journey.
It is practical, but it still looks like a gorgeous leather sling bag.
Muud Lexi Mini Project Bag
Not every project needs a large bag.
The Lexi Mini Project Bag is designed for smaller projects and can hold approximately two balls of yarn, depending on the yarn size.
It is ideal for socks, hats, smaller crochet projects or anything you want ready to pick up and take with you. Despite its compact size, it still includes lining pockets for organising needles and crochet hooks.
I like the idea of having one of these packed and ready beside the door.
You do not need to transfer your tools into another bag or spend ten minutes gathering everything before leaving. You can simply grab the project and go.
Muud Carita Storage
I also love the Carita options because they show that practical storage does not have to be boring.
There are classic options, but there are also fashion-forward designs that take a few risks. The cow-print piece, in particular, brings some personality into what could otherwise be a very sensible storage decision.
That matters.
Our knitting and crochet tools are part of our creative lives. The bag carrying them can be fun, interesting and reflective of our personal style too.
Is a Muud Knitting Bag Worth It?
A Muud bag will not be for every knitter or crocheter.
There are plenty of projects that will live happily in a simple tote bag. There are also times when the budget option is exactly the right option.
But if you regularly take your knitting or crochet out with you, have invested in good tools or are tired of losing small accessories in the bottom of your bag, a thoughtfully designed project bag can make a real difference.
You are paying for more than an empty space to hold yarn.
You are paying for the organisation, the strong zips, the leather, the carefully placed compartments and a bag designed to stay useful for years. Muud’s leather cases and bags are intended to develop a natural patina over time, so they should gain character rather than simply look worn.
Good storage also makes it easier to use the small pockets of time available for knitting.
You are not searching for a cable.
You are not emptying the bag to find a stitch marker.
You are not discovering that the wool needle you need is at home.
Your project and tools are together, ready when you are.
Choosing the Right Knitting Project Bag
Before choosing a project bag, think about how you tend to use it.
Do you usually work on small projects, or do you need room for a full jumper?
Will the bag stay at home, travel to knit group or come to work with you?
Do you want a separate needle case, or would you prefer your tools built into the main bag?
Would you use a handbag, crossbody or backpack-style bag more often?
And, perhaps most importantly, are you someone who puts everything carefully back into its proper pocket?
I would like to claim I am. A beautifully designed storage case certainly improves my chances.
Beautiful Storage for the Projects We Love
Knitting and crochet are not only about the finished garment, blanket or pair of socks.
There is pleasure in choosing the yarn, winding it, gathering your tools and packing a project to take with you.
A good knitting bag becomes part of that process.
Muud has created project bags and accessories that are practical without abandoning good design. They look beautiful, feel substantial and have clearly been designed by people who understand that makers carry far more than a couple of balls of wool.
For someone like me, with one handbag and an ever-growing collection of project bags, that level of thought makes a very convincing case for adding just one more.
You can browse our Muud knitting bags, needle cases and project accessories online, or visit us at The Wool Shop in Rangiora to see and feel them in person.
And yes, you should smell the leather.
