The Sille Slipover is a modern, textural layer designed to sit beautifully over shirts, dresses, and lightweight knits. It’s worked seamlessly from the top down in a subtle knit-and-purl structure that adds interest without overwhelming the fabric.

Construction begins with the back yoke, followed by the shoulders and front yoke worked flat. The body is then joined and worked in the round, before finishing with tidy ribbed edges at the neckline and armholes.

This is a printed knitting pattern, not a digital download.

  • Seamless, top-down construction

  • Knit-and-purl texture pattern

  • Worked flat and then in the round

  • Ribbed neckline and armholes

  • Designed to be worn layered or on its own

For a more oversized look, sizing up is recommended.

Gauge

20 sts × 32 rows = 10 × 10 cm
in pattern on 4 mm needles,
with two strands of yarn held together

Swatching is essential — this fabric relies on correct gauge for structure and drape.

Needles

  • 4 mm circular needles (60 & 80 cm)

  • 3.5 mm circular needles (40 & 80 cm)

Yarn requirements (clearly explained)

This pattern is written for two strands held together.

That means:

  • Either two finer strands used together, or

  • A single yarn that naturally knits to this gauge

What matters most is achieving gauge, not matching a brand name.

Approximate total metreage required

Below is the total yarn needed, regardless of how many strands you use.

Size Approx. total metreage
XS ~1,200 m
S ~1,200–1,350 m
M ~1,350–1,500 m
L ~1,350–1,500 m
XL ~1,500 m
2XL ~1,650 m
3XL ~1,800 m
4XL ~1,950 m

Always round up, especially if substituting yarns or adjusting length.
Textured stitch patterns tend to use slightly more yarn than plain stockinette.

Yarn type guide (what to look for)

You’re aiming for a fabric equivalent to:

  • Light worsted / heavy DK held double, or

  • A single yarn that naturally meets gauge at 4 mm

Good fibre options include:

  • Wool

  • Wool/alpaca blends

  • Wool with a touch of plant fibre for structure

Avoid very drapey or slippery fibres unless swatched carefully — this pattern needs stitch definition.
